10 Ways To Stay Healthy In College (REDO)

1. Go On A Diet

At college keeping a diet can be difficult. We have pizza, chicken fingers, beer, and we can all agree something fried tastes great! We have all heard about the freshman 15, and most of us know it too well. To maintain a good diet it’s recommended to consume 4-5 small meals a day consisting of fresh fruit, greens, and proteins like fish, grilled chicken, and lean red meat. Just remember to stay away from fried foods and sugars. Visit www.menshealth.com for excellent diet plans.

2. Stay Clean
Remember to always shower and brush your teeth. Your mouth is a breeding ground for germs…so brush in the morning, and before you go to bed. Showering once a day will leave you feeling refreshed, and will keep your roommate happy to say the least.

3. Get To Sleep
Some like sleep a little too much, but sleep is very important...especially in college. It is proven that sleep reduces stress, improves memory and regulates your body’s hormones properly. It is recommended to sleep at least 8 hours per day.

4. Hit The Gym
Exercise has countless benefits. It provides weight control, strengthens your heart, and other organ functions. It is recommended to exercise three times of week particularly cardio in combination of weight training. Gym access is included most tuition…why not use it? www.bodybuilding.com has a lot of routines for the beginner, and advanced athlete.

5. Go Meet Some People
You are in college! Get out there and make some friends. Other than class time, there are many other aspects of college education. Practice your communication skills and develop your personality. Most importantly college is one the greatest experiences in your life…the tricky part is finding the perfect balance between socialization and education.

6. Clean Your Room
A college bedroom could possibly become a breeding ground of bacteria. To keep the germs away remember to wash your clothes, and keep them off the floor. Vacuum your carpets, and use a Swiffer Wet mop for tile floors. Lysol spray on desks will also do a good job of eliminating bacteria.

7. Be Smart About Sex
In college we are all getting a little older. Most of us are sexually active and the potential exists for us to use our time in college to explore our relationships sexually. In order to stay healthy it is important to practice safe sex. Understand your partner, and remember to always use contraception to protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases.

8. Be Mindful Of Toxins
Aside from the toxins that exist in the unhealthy food college students eat, toxins exist within substances college students use as well. College provides young adults with new situations. Many experience alcohol for the first time, and even experiment with illegal drugs. To stay healthy remember to stay clear of illegal substances, and know the dangers of binge drinking.

9. Beat Stress
Let’s face it. We are here at college to learn, and hopefully steer our lives in some sort of direction. The work from classes can cause a lot of stress. When we are stressed out the effects take a toll on our bodies. Stress pulses through our nerves and can do more damage than good. So in order to eliminate stress remember to exercise and rest well. Mental health is just as important as physical health.

10. Know When To Stop
To stay healthy one must know their own limits. In college students typically have the feeling they have experiences most of life’s offerings when in actuality they have only brushed the surface. With college’s experiences whether it is at parties or in relationships and even school in order to maintain mental health you must know when you need help. By recognizing and receiving help for any topic, academic or not, you will be much better off.

College Finance Q & A

I set out to interview a genuine college student regarding his finances. It was an unexpected Q & A. He didn't expect the questions, and I didn't expect his answers. I interviewed Dan Wike, 21, a junior at Quinnipiac University. This is what he looks like.

Q:How much do you earn a week?
A:Around $150 more or less

Q:Do you ever stress about money?
A:No not really, I really try to watch my spending

Q:How do you watch your spending?
A:It's fairly simple. I just track everything I buy. I have a pretty good memory, and I always track my statements.

Q: So how much do you spend a week?
A: Usually in between $50 and $75

Q:Do you think your situation is common for college students?
A:Not at all, nothing is cheap. All throughout school I see kids wasting money.

Q:When you do spend what is it on?
A:Food, books, alcohol. It's an excellent pyramid.
