10 Ways To Stay Healthy In College (REDO)

1. Go On A Diet

At college keeping a diet can be difficult. We have pizza, chicken fingers, beer, and we can all agree something fried tastes great! We have all heard about the freshman 15, and most of us know it too well. To maintain a good diet it’s recommended to consume 4-5 small meals a day consisting of fresh fruit, greens, and proteins like fish, grilled chicken, and lean red meat. Just remember to stay away from fried foods and sugars. Visit www.menshealth.com for excellent diet plans.

2. Stay Clean
Remember to always shower and brush your teeth. Your mouth is a breeding ground for germs…so brush in the morning, and before you go to bed. Showering once a day will leave you feeling refreshed, and will keep your roommate happy to say the least.

3. Get To Sleep
Some like sleep a little too much, but sleep is very important...especially in college. It is proven that sleep reduces stress, improves memory and regulates your body’s hormones properly. It is recommended to sleep at least 8 hours per day.

4. Hit The Gym
Exercise has countless benefits. It provides weight control, strengthens your heart, and other organ functions. It is recommended to exercise three times of week particularly cardio in combination of weight training. Gym access is included most tuition…why not use it? www.bodybuilding.com has a lot of routines for the beginner, and advanced athlete.

5. Go Meet Some People
You are in college! Get out there and make some friends. Other than class time, there are many other aspects of college education. Practice your communication skills and develop your personality. Most importantly college is one the greatest experiences in your life…the tricky part is finding the perfect balance between socialization and education.

6. Clean Your Room
A college bedroom could possibly become a breeding ground of bacteria. To keep the germs away remember to wash your clothes, and keep them off the floor. Vacuum your carpets, and use a Swiffer Wet mop for tile floors. Lysol spray on desks will also do a good job of eliminating bacteria.

7. Be Smart About Sex
In college we are all getting a little older. Most of us are sexually active and the potential exists for us to use our time in college to explore our relationships sexually. In order to stay healthy it is important to practice safe sex. Understand your partner, and remember to always use contraception to protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases.

8. Be Mindful Of Toxins
Aside from the toxins that exist in the unhealthy food college students eat, toxins exist within substances college students use as well. College provides young adults with new situations. Many experience alcohol for the first time, and even experiment with illegal drugs. To stay healthy remember to stay clear of illegal substances, and know the dangers of binge drinking.

9. Beat Stress
Let’s face it. We are here at college to learn, and hopefully steer our lives in some sort of direction. The work from classes can cause a lot of stress. When we are stressed out the effects take a toll on our bodies. Stress pulses through our nerves and can do more damage than good. So in order to eliminate stress remember to exercise and rest well. Mental health is just as important as physical health.

10. Know When To Stop
To stay healthy one must know their own limits. In college students typically have the feeling they have experiences most of life’s offerings when in actuality they have only brushed the surface. With college’s experiences whether it is at parties or in relationships and even school in order to maintain mental health you must know when you need help. By recognizing and receiving help for any topic, academic or not, you will be much better off.

College Finance Q & A

I set out to interview a genuine college student regarding his finances. It was an unexpected Q & A. He didn't expect the questions, and I didn't expect his answers. I interviewed Dan Wike, 21, a junior at Quinnipiac University. This is what he looks like.

Q:How much do you earn a week?
A:Around $150 more or less

Q:Do you ever stress about money?
A:No not really, I really try to watch my spending

Q:How do you watch your spending?
A:It's fairly simple. I just track everything I buy. I have a pretty good memory, and I always track my statements.

Q: So how much do you spend a week?
A: Usually in between $50 and $75

Q:Do you think your situation is common for college students?
A:Not at all, nothing is cheap. All throughout school I see kids wasting money.

Q:When you do spend what is it on?
A:Food, books, alcohol. It's an excellent pyramid.

Does anyone REALLY want to see this now?

Words can't describe the sucess of this movie. I want to see it more than ever. How about you?

Ledger's Star Shines Bright

Kudos Heath.

RENNEY'S OUTTA HERE

Tom Renney was fired as the New York Rangers head coach. It's about time they did something. Some saw him as a great coach, but I noticed him as the person who never completed his goals. For once it would be nice to see him get fired up. I guess he'll have his chance in the future with some other team.

Possibly the worst trade ever...

Last week the NY Isladers decided to give up on defense and offense all together. By trading away two of their best players for a 35 year old NHL bicycle. Mike Comrie, and Chris Campoli were sent to Ottowa to help them on both sides of puck. In return the Islanders recieved Dean McAmmond. They also got a first round draft pick, but that is not enough medicine to stop this bleeding. I guess the Islanders just don't care anymore. Good for them.

GO RANGERS!

Thanks to Schultz for the picture!

Last Conan.....at 12:30

I am a huge Conan fan. I'm pumped that he's getting his much awaited promotion. I just hope the don't curb the content because of the earlier time slot. I wonder how much CBS's ratings will slip now since Conan brings in a much younger audience.

Rest In Pieces Powerbook Screen

So I was in class on Friday when somehow my desk was nudged and my beautiful 17 inch Powerbook G4 went tumbling to the ground. Just typing this blog and looking at the picture makes me cringe. So in the end it would cost to much to replace the screen, and since it's 3 and half years old I should be in the market for a newer computer. WRONG! With a baby on the way in my family, and my gracious parents helping me out with college there really is no money to loan me so I can afford a new computer. Plus I made some pretty dumb investments this year... I think the idea for my new story just came to my head...COLLEGE FINANCE: Where does the money go?

Christian Bale Guest Stars on Family Guy

Ok, I use HULU way too much...but I had to brush up on the Christian Bale flip out. Looks like Seth McFarlane is blowing his $100 Million on pointless episodes. this rant was a little funny, and I wanted to tie it to another post I made. I hope next week's episode is better.

Facebook Backs Down

Facebook heard everyone's comments and are going back to the old Terms and Conditions. A few weeks ago they changed their policy saying they would have complete ownership of the users content (posts, videos, and pictures). There was an outcry from the Facebook community, and many people threatened to cancel their account. Your voices were heard and Facebook is going to change their Terms, and Conditions. Here's CNN's take

I'm On A Boat

I am a huge fan of the SNL Digital Shorts. From "Lazy Sunday" to Natalie Portman's "Rap" I love them all. What's funny is the fact T-Pain made his way to SNL. The Lonely Island is also great...I wish FOX gave them more episodes.

The Third Wheel In Your Own Room

At one time or another in our life, we have all experienced being the third wheel of a relationship. College was the first time in my life I experienced being the third wheel.

When your roommate brings their significant other it is difficult to detach yourself from a situation. Ideally roommates should be relatively good friends with each other, but when the boyfriend or girlfriend is brought into the mix there is the potential to for the situation to get awkward.

What I have found was usually when college roommates first meet it is assumed that they would be friends. When the third wheel comes around the rudimentary definition of roommate emerges.

Being a roommate in its most basic form requires respect from each other. The significant other sometimes will not give you that respect. College is the time for people to experience fun, and freedom all at the same time. When your roommate has a significant other spending a lot of time in the room there seems to be some social aspects of college that seemed to be miss.

You get less fun with your own roommate, and more of a taste of their own relationship. Whenever there are fights, you will be in them too. Much like a silent partner to a business you will witness the MTV drama unfold.

Natalie Janzuis, 20, a junior student at Quinnipiac University says, “I don’t mind when my roommate has their significant other over unless it’s too often because then it’s an invasion of my privacy”.

When it comes time to take a shower and that person is there, there is a problem. When the significant other is in the room when you wake up and your roommate is at class, there is a problem. Above all of these nuisances the most annoying is when the significant other begins to have a voice for room decisions. That’s when the line needs to be drawn.

Out of experience the best way to deal with this is to be honest with the happy or unhappy couple. You need to express your feelings and your basic needs as a roommate. Privacy is important. You must be clear about what you want from your roommate, and that it is fair that they respect your wishes.

NY LEGO

NY LEGO

this is an unbelievable portrait. New York is the city I have grown to love, and I am proud to have always called it home. This montage of Lego pieces is clever and fun. I wish I was clever enough to think of this.

Batman is a PRICK

Check this out!

Check this out guys. He flipped out on the director of photography on the set of his next movie. Supposedly all the guy did was walk out on set during one take. He said the F-Word every 6 seconds. This is just crazy. This guy really needs to check his ego. Plus his stupid accent makes him seem like a bigger ass. This tirade should be a lesson that because people make a lot of money as an actor or an athlete does not make them a perfect role model!
